The Live Bar story

Live bar in Shanghai was formerly an abandoned chemical plant workshop which was then used as a rubbish recycle station.

- It took me one year to find this place in Kunming road as a result of looking for a place by going around Shanghai by bicycle. At first I could not find any ideal place because the rent for most places available was too high. In fact I had even thought of giving up trying to find a place as it seemed I would not be able to. I just had shipped some instruments back to Zhuhai, when unexpectedly I was informed of the availability for rent of the bar which I now have in Shanghai. With great excitement I rushed to complete the negotiation and sign the contract.
Renovations to the space were quickly completed from 8th to 28th of August 2005 and the bar opened.The ceiling is nine meters high which may be the highest ceiling for a show space in Shanghai, with a floor of brick and concrete which runs north and south, with four large windows at the front which provide the interior with a lot of natural light. Kunming road runs in front of the bar and to the left is the Zhonghua tobacco factory which gives off the permanent aroma of tobacco which always infiltrates into the bar providing a pleasant smell inside the bar.

Nowadays Kunming road is becoming wider. If you stand on the corner where Kunming road and Dalian road you can easily see our bar sign. Near the entrance to the subway station on Dalian road there is a wall 200 meter long which is a construction site belonging to the Semenz company. On this wall are painted many colorful graffiti which fascinate all passersby.
